All Olive Oil Castile Soap

Pure Castile soap is made entirely from olive oil. This takes a very long time to thicken or trace. Originating in the Castile region of Spain, an area rich in the production of olive oil.

16 ounces by weight olive oil
2 ounces by weight pure lye*
6 fluid ounces cold water

Heat olive oil slowly to 80-85 degrees. Dissolve lye into water and let cool until 80-85 degrees. Pour lye solution into oil. Pour in a slow, steady, thin stream with slow even stirring. Stir until thick like honey, this may take a long time. Pour into mold. Cover and keep warm for 24 hours. Cut into bars and age 4 weeks.
